Nancy Goldenberg
The tension between fragility and strength, and the shifting relationship between comfort and fear are the concerns of this work. The figures and fragmented body parts that recur throughout my work appear to be colorful decorations, and on closer inspection are revealed to be made of the flowery patterns of stained mattresses and bed sheets. I am comforted by these fabrics, filled with delicate lines and flowery patterns. At the same time the vulnerable body lurks below the pretty surfaces.
