I am compelled by the oppositions in the
everyday. Both the conventions of storytelling
and narrative, as well as the non-sensical and
excess information that does not make sense
or tell a coherent story. In the observation of
daily activities, I document commonplace events
and mine my material for specific gestures that
are compelling, either formally or emotionally.
These usually include repetitive gestures,
which reveal patterns and cycles. Seeking out
the under represented, and banal, like a whisper
overheard on the street, I attempt to make a
monument out of the unmonumental-make
something out of nothing.
