I started making these drawn paintings in order
to transmit emotional intensity as well as
narrative possibility to a viewer. Line drawing
with pen and/or paint on surfaces is the medium
most conducive to my expression. It is honest
and direct. When a line finds a surface it is a
permanent record of a self in one moment. Each
succeeding line relates directly to the last as
if in a conversation of words- never to be taken
back. The finished drawing is true to the state
of the artist at the time the work was made. It
is a psychological portrait. All nervous curves,
slashes, forceful and light marks, and points
where the drawing tool separates from the
surface give an account of the thought processes
and emotional progressions of a mind, a heart.
Every line used to develop an idea can be seen.
The viewer can relive the process by following a
line, and there, be able to relate the work to
themselves in a state of true empathy.
