Shadows
of Destruction are pen and ink drawings of man-made structures
which have been damaged or destroyed by man. It began with
a newspaper photo of an aerial view of the World Trade Center
site taken shortly after 9/11. I did not know how to begin
such a complex drawing, so I began with the shadows areas
protected, veiled, and secreted from the sun by what was
left standing. As an artist, sometimes I do not know why
I do things and it is only later that a pattern is revealed
to me. So it is with the photos which I collected and from
which I have extracted these drawings: the genesis of this
work was my fascination and horror with what humans, in
their hubris, could and did do to one another.
