In my video work, I document everyday gestures and repetitive movements of human behaviors in a way that questions the distinction between ”normal” and pathological behavior. An example of this can be seen in my video installation "every (other) day" where I documented the movements of marching bands at the 2002 presidential inauguration. After recording each marching band, I scrutinized the seamless mechanical behavior of these individuals functioning as a single organ. Searching for accidents and abberrations, which I then digitally exaggerated and altered, creating anomalies which I then inserted back into the original footage and juxtaposed with super 8 footage of idle machines and people.

My more recent work "every silver lining" is a departure from "every (other) day" in that I incorporate the art product "rejects" of my elementary school art students. Using their discarded art scraps and detritus, I extend my research into what is normal
by examining what is acceptable to be viewed or shown based on the art pieces my students throw away. This allows me to look at their notions of what is acceptable to be shown and viewed and what needs to be hidden or remain invisible.
