TV
Land
TV - truly the international virus of the 20th Century. Infecting without
prejudice, whether it be a loner in a flea bag motel on the outskirts
of New Jersey, or a retired widower in a small provincial town in the
south of France.
Television has been transmitting it's flickering glow to the masses for
over half a century. Now more than ever before, people are addicted to
it, drawing them in closer and closer. What started off as a porthole
into another dimension with live entertainment is now polluted with the
self proclaimed. Infomercials, crime drama, real life horror (graphic
news imagery) celebrity bullshit and worst of all the final insult to
this once great informer and entertainment invention, THE Reality show...
One has to wonder why we are using this device for such absolute garbage,
but we've had a choice, on or off. Great events such when a human first
set foot on another celestial body, the non pro olympics, the fall of
the berlin wall - it was all meant to bring us closer, to open the world.
Instead it has made us more insular, why do you need to travel the world,
go to a real basket ball game, socialize? it's all here in our lounge
rooms at the push of a button.
Is it the networks who are to blame, the advertisers? or the audiences
who drive these corporations to deliver this trash into our homes. It
only takes one click to start the change.
The Revolution will not be televised.
